PAKISTAN 79th ANNUAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION UPDATE:

on 16th August, organised by Pakistan Community Centre chairman Mian Saleem and executive committee. We have been organising this for the last 40 years and it brings all of the community together and is a celebration of the Pakistani culture including music from famous singer Mazhar Rahi, Shafaq Ali, Umme Layla and Nisa B.

We had stalls for food clothes jewellery aswell as fun activities for the kids such as bouncy castles and face painting located beside the park which created a lovely family environment for picnics and games. throughout the day from 1-8pm we had approximately 5,000 people attended including VIP guests MP Matt Rodda, MP Yuan Yung, Ex MP Martin Salter, Leader of the Council Liz Terry, Deputy Mayor of Reading Amjad Tarar, Deputy Leader Micky Leng, Ex Mayor Tony Jones and representative from Conservative Party Sadia Saadat, Ex mayor of Early Town from Lib Dem Tahir Maher, councillor Shahid Yunis aswell as Ex Mayor Muhammed Ayub, Raja Mazhar sahib, Mustafa Chaudry and many other councillors from across boroughs of Reading and Wokingham.

We also had from the Pakistan High Commission, the minister coordinater Muhammed Ali, minister for the press Ali Nawaz Malik, PPP President Mohsin Bhari. We presented the community service shield awards to Martin Salter, ex leader of the council Jo Lovelock and Ex Chair Ejaz Elahi, Ex chair Mohammed Arif Kiyani and ex chair Manzoor Hussain, Ex Mayor Gul Nawaz Khan and Ex Mayor Chaudry Riaz and CBE Mushtaq Lishari, many others dignitaries. I would like to proudly highlight that we also host and celebrate a number of other activities throughout the year including an annual Christmas Lunch which brings together cross interfaith community and dignitaries of the town from Churches, synagogues, temples and representatives from the Police, fires services the NhS, and representatives from the council cross boroughs Reading and Wokingham.
